“Ahimsa”, meaning “nonviolence”, is a philosophy of many eastern religions, stating that humans should refrain from inflicting suffering on others, including non-human and even non-animal life. In this process silk worm can complete their life cycle and finally fly away as a beautiful butterfly.
cocccon crafts & loom is the fastest growing manufacturer of organically produced peace Silk. Cocoons are all allowed to hatch and breed, and the silk is processed from the hatched cocoons. In some cases, the cocoons can be pierced or cut open and the butterfly tipped out.
This process saves lives of beautiful silk moths but also requires 1/4rd of the water for degumming compared to conventional silk. Since cocoons are without impurities, need of using hard-metal chemicals related to killing germs or removing impurities are also not required. These moths have a short but very significant life span. Moths contribute in local Pollination similar as Bees means very important for local botanical life cycle. Increase in production of peace silk has seen increase in local pollination and resulted in return of many lost botanical species.
1. Mullberry Silk is raised mostly indoor in cottages without using any chemical spray, right up to the point where the cocoons would be stifled, or processed with heat, in order to kill the pupa and keep it from breaking through the cocoon. Peace cocoons are all allowed to hatch and breed, and the silk is processed from the hatched cocoons. In some cases, the cocoons can be pierced or cut open and the pupa tipped out.
2. Tussar Silk is produced from larvae of several species of silk worms belonging to the moth genus Antheraea, including Antheraea mylitta, Antheraea pernyi, Antheraea roylei and Antheraea yamamai.
